Synopsis:
NYPD Detective John McClane lives in Brooklyn, and he's now divorced from Holly Gennero, who lives in San Francisco. John has faced some brutal terrorists in his career, but now, he's about to face what may be his most dangerous enemy yet. John, who occasionally does jobs for the United States Department of Homeland Security, receives a call to bring in a hacker named Matt Farrell, because there has been a breach in an FBI computer system. Farrell is one of the many hackers who are suspected in the attack, and all known hackers are to be questioned. But after John gets to Matt's apartment, a group of men show up and try to kill John and Matt, who barely escape with their lives. As it turns out, a group of terrorists led by Thomas Gabriel are systematically shutting down the United States computer infrastructure. They crash the stock market, crippling America's economy. It turns out that Matt knows enough about hacking to know exactly how Gabriel is shutting down the USA. Gabriel, a disgraced former Department of Defense employee, plans to bring the country to its knees, but he doesn't count on John and Matt figuring out what's going on. Gabriel wants John and Matt out of the way, and for John, the situation becomes personal when an enraged Gabriel kidnaps John's daughter Lucy, who is a student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Gabriel may think he now has the upper hand on John, but he has no idea how far John is willing to go to rescue Lucy.

My Review:
This latest Die Hard sequels now comes with new sensation. The touches of high technology on it make a bit different with previous scenarios. As you may seen on prior titles, John McClane had to faced kind of physic wars, but this time he must agree with cyber war. An illusion that might be happened at recent days. Anyway, Live Free comes with cool and high thriller. The impacts, details, sound and actors had convinced me to choose this film to be your weekend show.

Deja Vu

Thursday, May 15, 2008 | Labels: , , , , |

Synopsis:
After an explosion on a ferry kills over 500 people including a large group of party-going sailors, an ATF agent investigates the crime. An FBI agent also joins the investigation. Impressed with the ATF agent's skills, the FBI agent invites him to join a new team that has a new program that uses satellite technology to look backwards in time for 4-1/2 days to try to capture the terrorist. Meanwhile a young woman who was burned washes up on shore. Meant to look like part of of the explosion, the body arrives at its location too soon, which leads the agents to believe her death is related to the explosion. As they use the new technology to study the woman, the ATF agent determines that this is not satellite imagery but somehow is using a time warp. From this point in the film, the movie moves from a crime film to a sci-fi time paradox film. Nonetheless, the action is non-stop and always captivating. The end of the film may be confusing to some people, but it is all laid out if one cares to look carefully. Contains some extreme violence that some may find disturbing, particularly during the explosion when many people are shown jumping off the boat in flames.

My Review:
Déjà Vu movie comes with a high-tech and science fiction combinations. Denzel here against a psycho-terrorist by reverting time returning to the past just before the explosion happened. Great thumbs for the script writer succeeded to create a great plot. The movie details are shown amazingly, especially time by time reverting. I wonder that Google Earth can imagine this creation. Anyway, you must see this movie and get wondering by your self.

American Gangster

Wednesday, May 14, 2008 | Labels: , |

Synopsis:
Following the death of his employer and mentor, Bumpy Johnson, Frank Lucas establishes himself as the number one importer of heroin in the Harlem district of Manhattan. He does so by buying heroin directly from the source in South East Asia and he comes up with a unique way of importing the drugs into the United States. As a result, his product is superior to what is currently available on the street and his prices are lower. His alliance with the New York Mafia ensures his position. It is also the story of a dedicated and honest policeman, Richie Roberts, who heads up a joint narcotics task force with the Federal government. Based on a true story.

My Review:
This is my first movie to watch Denzel Washington with antagonist character, to be a brutal criminal super mafia but so soft and gentle like Robin Hood. Two thumbs up for him and every details for the movie. The 1960 era’s is seem more live with various environments. At the end of the movie, it reminds me about Corruption Against Committee in Indonesia. Anyway, for me, the film sounds carrying specific morality message; don’t be greedy and don’t be a corruptor. Great movie as a must see.

Flag of Our Father

Tuesday, May 13, 2008 | Labels: , , |

Synopsis:
In 1945, the Marines attack twelve thousand Japanese’s protecting the twenty square kilometers of the sacred Iwo Jima island in a very violent battle. When they reach the Mount Suribachi and six soldiers raise their flag on the top, the picture become a symbol in a post Great Depression America. The government brings the three survivors to America to raise funds of war, bringing hope to desolated people, and making the three men heroes of war. However, the traumatized trio has difficulties to deal with the image build by their superiors, sharing the heroism with their mates.

My Review:
It is very poor minus movie, with annoying plot cause spectators to be confused. Sometime it show the present time but suddenly it revert to past time and there are past time in a past time story and so on. For me, the plus is when it shows the combat zone, especially the plane battle in a cockpit mode, my favorite one. Flag of Our Father is a Saving Private Ryan similar or compact version of Band of Brothers but with difference sense; is war survivors can be named as a hero?

Lord Of The Rings: The Return of The King

| Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Synopsis:
The final battle for Middle-Earth begins. Frodo and Sam, led by Gollum, continue their dangerous mission toward the fires of Mount Doom in order to destroy the One Ring. Aragon struggles to fulfill his legacy as he leads his out-numbered followers against the growing power of the dark Lord Sauron, so that the Ring-bearer may complete his guest. The once great kingdom, watched over by a fading steward, has never been in more desperate need of its king. But can Aragon answer the call of his heritage and become what he was born to be? In so small measure, the fate of Middle-Earth rests on his board shoulders.

My Review:
Very great epic colossal adventure movie series! Anyway, in my opinion, the one who suitable the predicate as hero is Sam. He has all the honors, faith and trust. Frodo is typically too wise until he can’t see who’s friend or enemy. Moreover, the stereo and the picture was amazing but the details and image logics of the story seems to be much ignored. Sometimes, I even couldn’t follows the plot.

Rules of Engagement

Sunday, May 11, 2008 | Labels: , , , |

Synopsis:
Colonel Terry Childers is a 30 year career Marine. When he is ordered to go the American Embassy in Yemen, when it's learned that things there are starting to unravel. After evacuating the Ambassador and his family, Childers orders his men to fire at the crowd cause he believes that they are armed. Back in the U.S., certain officials fear that there'll be a backlash against other embassies and Americans, if Childers claim is proven to be true. So they have decided to make Childers a scapegoat. Childers asks Colonel Hayes Hodges, a man whom he knew and saved in Vietnam to defend him. And while there is no evidence or witness that can back Childers' claim, Hodges feels that he owes it to Childers to do what he can.

My Review:
A heart touch movies which able to raise the nationalism. This is what a true friend for; helping each others when someone need it, no matter what and when. With combat zone backgrounds, Rules of Engagement strength it’s position as a drama action typically. Meanwhile, the Yemen natives which appeared on it feels too stiff and not as real as shown on Black Hack Down. Anyway, without the existing of Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson as the main actors, this movie feels dull. Thus, the ending of the story looks to be completed and satisfied everyone. Well, I give it 4 of 5.

Synopsis:
It is just another day at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a few astronauts were repairing a satellite until, out of nowhere, a series of asteroids came crashing into the shuttle, destroying it. These asteroids also decimated New York soon thereafter. Then, NASA discovered that there is an asteroid roughly the size of Texas heading towards the Earth, and when it does hit the Earth, the planet itself and all of its inhabitants will be obliterated, worse, the asteroid will hit the Earth in 18 days. Unfortunately, NASA's plans to destroy the asteroid are irrelevant. That is when the U.S. military decides to use a nuclear warhead to blow the asteroid to pieces. Then, scientists decide to blow the asteroid with the warhead inside the asteroid itself. The only man to do it, is an oil driller named Harry Stamper and his group of misfit drillers and geologists. As he and his drill team prepare for space excavation, the asteroid is still heading towards the Earth. When the crew are launched into outer space, they are determined to destroy this asteroid.

My Review:
Armageddon means end of world, the time which scared everybody in earth. The judgment day in Armageddon comes with story of a huge comet impacts the world. It is a make sense thinking since there are possibility of space things drop in it but no one know when it be happened in a real world. Anyway, this is a great movie with fine animation simulating about it. It’s a similar kind by Double Impact but with an existing of various famous actors as heroes. Overall, I give it a perfect score!

Director: Michael Bay
